Ohio Marijuana License
Ohio allows adult-use and medical cannabis. The Division of Cannabis Control licenses cultivators, processors, dispensaries and labs; existing medical operators received dual-use licenses, and adult-use sales began in 2024.
Overview
Ohio legalized medical marijuana in 2016 and adult-use cannabis through a 2023 ballot initiative (Issue 2). The Division of Cannabis Control (DCC), within the Department of Commerce, now oversees both programs.
The first adult-use licenses went to existing medical operators as dual-use licenses, and retail sales began in August 2024. Additional licenses, including licenses set aside for social equity applicants, are released through DCC rules and application rounds.
