Maryland Marijuana License
Maryland allows adult-use and medical cannabis. The Maryland Cannabis Administration licenses growers, processors and dispensaries, and its first adult-use round was reserved for verified social equity applicants.
Overview
Maryland voters approved adult-use cannabis in 2022, and sales began in July 2023. The Maryland Cannabis Administration (MCA) regulates both the adult-use and medical markets.
Existing medical operators converted to dual licenses. New licenses are awarded in rounds, and the first round of 179 licenses was open only to verified social equity applicants, with winners chosen by lottery. Applicants must hold at least 65% ownership by a verified social equity applicant.
