Overview
Michigan allows both adult-use and medical cannabis, and medical patients can still register with the state program.
Who qualifies
- Michigan resident with a qualifying condition such as cancer, glaucoma, HIV/AIDS, chronic pain, PTSD, epilepsy, Crohn's disease and others on the state list
- Certification from a Michigan physician
Step-by-step: how to apply
- Get a written certification from a physician.
- Apply online through the CRA Medical Marijuana Program.
- Pay the registry fee and receive your card.
How much it costs
- State fee: $40 (2-year card)
- Doctor visit: set by the practitioner or clinic, not the state, and usually not covered by insurance. Compare a few registered providers, including telehealth where the state allows it.
Renewal
Every 2 years. Set a reminder before your certification or card expires so you don't lose access.
Where to buy
Once you're registered, you can buy from licensed medical dispensaries in Michigan. Only buy from state-licensed businesses; check the Michigan Cannabis Regulatory Agency Medical Marijuana Program for licensed locations.
Official program
Apply and check current rules directly with the Michigan Cannabis Regulatory Agency Medical Marijuana Program. For business licensing in Michigan, see our Michigan marijuana license guide, or browse medical card guides for every state.
