Overview
Florida allows medical marijuana only. You must be in the state's Medical Marijuana Use Registry and hold an ID card to buy from a licensed dispensary (MMTC).
Who qualifies
- Florida resident (or seasonal resident) with a qualifying condition
- Qualifying conditions include cancer, epilepsy, glaucoma, HIV/AIDS, PTSD, ALS, Crohn's disease, Parkinson's disease, multiple sclerosis, chronic nonmalignant pain, and comparable conditions a physician certifies
- Certification from a qualified physician registered with the state
Step-by-step: how to apply
- See a qualified physician for an in-person exam and certification.
- The physician enters you in the Medical Marijuana Use Registry.
- Complete your online application with the registry and pay the ID card fee.
- Once approved, buy from any licensed MMTC dispensary.
How much it costs
- State fee: $75 per year
- Doctor visit: set by the practitioner or clinic, not the state, and usually not covered by insurance. Compare a few registered providers, including telehealth where the state allows it.
Renewal
Annual ID card renewal; physician recertification required. Set a reminder before your certification or card expires so you don't lose access.
Where to buy
Once you're registered, you can buy from licensed medical dispensaries in Florida. Only buy from state-licensed businesses; check the Florida Office of Medical Marijuana Use for licensed locations.
